Bill Healey, vice president and chief supply chain officer for The Charmer Sunbelt Group, was named chairman of the Alcohol Beverage Industry (ABI) Supply Chain Council. Coupled with this announcement was a new set of goals for the group.

The organization is using the theme “Driving Supply-Chain Efficiency in the Alcohol Beverage Industry for Over 20 Years” to reflect the focus on improving the supply-chain efficiencies and data accuracy within the alcoholic beverage industry. This will be accomplished through the use of electronic commerce, the establishment of industry standards and the application of best practices.

“We are broadening the mission statement to include improvements to not only the technical components of the supply chain, but all of the components and processes,” Healy said. “One of the current challenges we are addressing is the reduction and elimination of inaccurate data in business transactions. Broadening participation across the business enterprise and not simply laying the challenge at the feet of the technology department will create the critical mass we need to make progress on these types of issues.”
