Wine Enthusiast Magazine recently named Charles Merinoff, chairman and chief operating officer of The Charmer Sunbelt Group, as its 2014 Person of the Year, in recognition of his important role in promoting wine and spirits in the United States.
Charles served as chairman of the Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of America (WSWA) from 2012 to 2013. During his time leading this organization, he was instrumental in bringing suppliers and wholesalers to the table to reach agreement and put proposed federal legislation on the back burner. This legislation had been extremely divisive for wholesalers and suppliers.
"But this keen diplomacy and his innate creative problem solving not only served him during his WSWA tenure," the magazine's announcement states, "it’s also a major reason the family-owned Charmer Sunbelt Group continues to grow and remains one of the driving forces in the wine and spirits industry, delivering and marketing a vast array of both emerging and namesake brands, from Jack Daniel's whiskeys to E&J Gallo wines."
The award is part of the magazine's Wine Star Awards, which the editors of Wine Enthusiast have given out since 2000 to honor individuals whose vision has impacted the wine and spirits industries. The winners "are notable for their energy and groundbreaking vision, coupled with the courage to take risks and the skill to succeed."
Started in 1988, Wine Enthusiast Magazine has become the world's largest periodical devoted exclusively to wine and spirits. The winners will be honored at the Wine Star Awards Dinner on Jan. 26, 2015, in New York City.
