Education: Getting the Message Out
In one of its most high-profile and effective endeavors, The Charmer Sunbelt Group has created Tailgaiters Urging Responsibility and Fun, or TURF, a multi-faceted program to raise awareness of responsible alcohol consumption surrounding the time-honored tradition of pregame tailgaiting.
In Pennsylvania, TURF partnered with CSG, Capital Wine & Spirits, CBS Radio, Brown Forman, and the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board to produce public service messages narrated by Boomer Esiason supporting consumption for people 21 and older. These messages aired before each Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburg Steelers home game. TURF was adopted by the University of Pittsburg and Penn State, where the TURF responsibility message with Boomer played on the Jumbotron at each game. In addition, the Pennsylvania public school website also hosted TURF and the public service message. TURF and CWS sponsored “The Black and Gold” Pittsburg Steelers pregame show on KDKA to urge responsible consumption. CWS distributed flyers with tips for safe and fun tailgating at all PLCB stores.
In addition, TURF posters were produced and displayed in 620 Pennsylvania wine and spirits stores across the state, while public service announcements aired throughout the fall on KDKA Pittsburgh and 610 WIP Philadelphia.

Forging Relationships With Our Regulators
Since 2005, Capital Wine & Spirits, in concert with The Charmer Sunbelt Group, has been working closely with the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) and governing bodies to formally address the board on numerous occasions regarding CSG social responsibility efforts. The state partnered with CSG to articulate zero tolerance for underage drinking and drunk driving in public service announcements by Senator Chris Coons and Governor Tom Corbett.
